Ferdowsi Tomb-Interior

The stone carvings of Ferdowsi’s mausoleum are embossed stone images from the stories of Shahnameh and stone inscriptions from Ferdowsi’s and others’ poems that have been used in the interior architecture of Ferdowsi’s mausoleum in Tus. This building was opened in 1313 SH (1934 CE) and its initial design was prepared by engineer Karim Taherzadeh Behzad. Ferdowsi’s mausoleum is the burial place of Hakim Abolghasem Ferdowsi, a renowned Iranian poet and the author of Shahnameh.

Ferdowsi’s mausoleum is one of the national monuments of Iran that is located in the city of Tus in Khorasan Razavi province. Shahnameh is an epic and historical work that narrates the stories of ancient Iran. Ferdowsi passed away in 415 AH and his body was buried in his garden. Later, a brick building was built over his grave that was destroyed and rebuilt several times. In 1313 SH, a new design of the mausoleum was made by Houshang Seyhoun and inaugurated. This design includes a garden, a pool, a statue, a memorial building, a library, a museum and beautiful stone carvings that show the images and inscriptions related to Shahnameh. This building is a symbol of Iranian culture and identity that attracts many visitors.
